Durability of Geosynthetics I Revised edition

The revised edition of Durability of Geosynthetics provides a state-ofthe-art review of the life-limiting mechanisms by which geosynthetics degrade. The publication lists tests which could be specified to measure the long term effects. It also describes evaluation methods, how to make an assessment in order to determine the expected lifetime of a geosynthetic and the means by which the durability can be improved. The book provides engineers with information they need on the durability and lifetime of geosynthetics. Bridging the gap between them and polymer scientists.

The book describes the types of mechanism, based on the requirements for 100 years service life. The present Harmonised EN standards do not help the engineer who has to design or approve a geosynthetic material for a service life of more than 25 years. There is a need for instructions on how to solve this problem and to identify the experts who can make the assessments.

Durability of Geosynthetics is intended for use by civil engineers who have a limited knowledge of chemical engineering or polymer technology. But have been tasked with the responsability of checking the service life.

The book covers the use of geotextiles, geogrids, drainage mats etc. in most civil engineering applications. However it does not cover the use of geomembranes and geosynthetic clay liners.
